Dr. Esther Ngotho for Beverly Mayor.
I recently visited my dear friend and fellow Zen Center colleague Esther Ngotho to capture some photographs of her for her mayor of Beverly, Massachusetts election campaign.
I wasn't particularly satisfied with the images from this photo shoot because I'm my own worst critic and suggested a reshoot because I didn't like the shadow from her eyeglasses, however, it seems that Esther was very happy with the results, and I'm happy to have yet another one of my photographs published. Esther is the first person of color to ever run for mayor in Beverly, Massachusetts and I'm so proud of her for her amazing contributions to the city of Beverly and beyond.
I first met Esther at Beverly's "Rally for Love" in 2017 the same year she launched her campaign to run for Beverly City Councilor at Large, and she's a sangha member of Zen Center North Shore where I practice.

I was very delighted to see my photograph of Esther that I captured appear on the digital billboard marquee at Beverly's Cabot Cinema. I had a my Nikon N80 35mm camera loaded a roll of expired Kodak Gold 200 film on me, so I snapped a photograph of it. Due to the nature of expired film, it's not a great photo, but it's decent enough to document the occasion.
I'm grateful that I'm very skilled in my craft. It's not only an art, but a science as well. There's so much more involved than just framing and snapping the shutter button. Especially when shooting on film. Of the 100s of professional photographers near me, I'm the only one that knows how to shoot, develop and print film.
