Today I participated in and photographed a vigil honoring Shireen Abu Akleh, Palestinian-American journalist who was assassinated by Israeli Defense Forces on May 11 in Jenin, West Bank, Palestine while reporting for Al Jazeera on May 11, 2022 while wearing her press vest. It is an international war crime to target & kill members of the press, which is precisely why reporters wear vests that clearly identify them as press while they're covering and reporting on war, conflict & violence.
The vigil was also a gathering to commemorate the 74th Nakba on May 15 when over 750,000 Palestinians were driven out of their homes by colonizing settlers who began stealing their land in 1948.
The inhumane treatment of the Palestinian people by apartheid Israel is genocide.
We as an international community, MUST end the illegal occupation & settlement of Palestine.
We must FREE PALESTINE!
From the river to the sea!
The international community must hold Israel accountable for 74 years of extreme human rights abuses & war crimes!
NO MORE US AID TO ISRAEL!
It is important to show up for the people of Palestine. It is important to speak up and speak out whenever we can against the genocide, war crimes, human rights abuses and apartheid state of Israel.
Beautiful, precious human lives are lost every single day, for 74 years, and the US government is funding these atrocities with American tax dollars. This MUST END. The Palestinian people deserve & should have the right to return, and have full, complete autonomy of their own land which was stolen from them by the colonist settlers.
I ask you..
I DEMAND that you get involved in supporting the people of Palestine!
Your silence is complicity!!
